Ebba Biotech is growing, so is our product catalogue

Ebba Biotech is growing, so is our product catalogue

Earlier this year, we took a significant step forward by expanding our product series to include DMSO as a solvent for some of Ebba Biotech products, alongside our trusted ultrapure water for dissolving our molecules. Wondering why? Let us fill you in!

💡 Expanding Horizons: With DMSO, we are expanding our application areas to include organic solvents. This minimises any limits on researchers wanting to test different solutions.
🌡 Extended Shelf Life: Our shelf life is improving! As is common with ultrapure water in small volumes - there is always a risk for evaporation. With DMSO we eliminate this risk ensuring maximum quality for a longer period of time.

Do you have any questions about which solvent is right for you, or curious to learn more? Feel free to reach out to us here. We are there to support your research needs! 🔬🧪💼

New Amytracker publication about protein aggregation in PKU

New Amytracker publication about protein aggregation in PKU

How can protein aggregation play a role in inherited disorders such as Phenylketonuria (commonly known as PKU)? Oscar Aubi and colleagues published their findings in the journal Nature Communications where they showed a link between aggregation of a mutant phenylalanine hydroxylase (Pah) variant (R261Q) and the disease Phenylketonuria. Amytracker was used to study the aggregation properties of Pah R261Q.

International Alzheimer´s day

International Alzheimer´s day

🌍Today is International Alzheimer’s Day!

💙Alzheimer’s impacts not only individuals but also their families, friends, and communities. It’s a reminder of the importance of early detection, research, and providing the best care possible.

At Ebba Biotech we do our best to support research into neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimers with our Amytracker product series. An example is shown in the image below where Amytracker 680 (🔴) is able to fluoresce only when bound to bona-fide intracellular amyloid aggregates surrounding the nuclei (DNA - DAPI 🔵) in the temporal lobe of an Alzheimer’s disease human brain. With this we hope to enhance any current and future research in the fight against Alzheimer’s and other amyloid related neurodegenerative diseases.

International Microorganism Day!

International Microorganism Day!

🌍 Happy International Microorganism Day! 🦠

Today, we celebrate the tiny heroes that play a massive role in our world, Microorganisms. Ebba Biotech has a special appreciation for microorganisms as our EbbaBiolight product line can be used in lots of various research surrounding microorganisms!

Like in this video where researchers at Karolinska Institutet were able to track - in real time! - the growth of Salmonella (tagged with GFP - Green 🟢) and the ECM component curli (labelled with EbbaBiolight 680 - Red 🔴) in a Salmonella macrocolony on an agar plate over 72 hours.

Amytracker 680 Publication

Amytracker 680 Publication

Exciting Developments in amyloid Research

A recent preprint from the Nowick Laboratory at UC Irvine investigates an Aβ trimer with specific Aβl7-36 β-hairpins. The goal? The development of antibodies towards these structures. The study includes the use of Amytracker 680 for the detection of Aβ plaques in brain tissue. With Adam Kreutzer being a big fan of the easy implementation of the Amytracker molecules in his workflow. We, at Ebba Biotech are very excited to read the full article once it is published.

Forum Scientium visits Ebba Biotech

Forum Scientium visits Ebba Biotech

This May we had a very insightful and fruitful visit by Forum Scientium from Linköping University. Our goal was to give ourvistors insight into the life science industry, away from academia. Additionally to let them enjoy the sights at beautiful Karolinska Institute science park.

We really enjoyed our morning showing everyone around the office and telling them all about the work we do here at Ebba Biotech. They even got the opportunity to become Research Engineers for a day and brainstorm ideas to promote our products!

We wish all of our guests a promising future and hope to see them in the life sciences and academia soon!

Cellulose Fibers Conference 2023

Cellulose Fibers Conference 2023

We had the opportunity to really SHOW how Carbotrace works at the Cellulose Fibres Conference in Cologne, Germany this week 🌿 🔬

The conference highlighted the many uses of cellulose, emphasised the importance of recycled textiles, and new innovative natural materials. We had so much fun speaking about Carbotrace and gaining a deeper understanding of where the cellulose field is moving 🚀

It was particularly fun to add a couple of drops of our fluorescent molecule on the variou fibres that participants brought with them! 🧪 Leon Blanckart, for example, brought a beanie made out of hemp (worn by Hugo in the picture) and hemp fibres from different parts of the production process. So we decided to see what the hemp fibres look like when the cellulose is labeled with Carbotrace 540! Astonishingly beautiful! 😍

Thanks to the organizers at nova-Institut GmbH for putting together this great conference!

Team Update

Team Update

After three years as CEO at Ebba Biotech, Eva Halén is now stepping down and moving onto new adventures. Her incredible and diligent work over the past few years have built the foundations of the Ebba Biotech structure and the basis for its success. The entire team will miss her but look forward to follwing her journey at KTH Innvovations, helping new (younger 😉) start ups enter the business world.

Follwing her departure, Ebba Biotech's new leadership comes in the form of a co-management team with our Product Manager Dr. Susanne Löffler stepping up as Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and Smilla Huzell stepping up as the Chief Operations Officer (COO) at the Solna office. As of December 1st, these familiar faces with new responsibilities look forward to taking Ebba Biotech further.

Conferences - ADAM9 2022

Conferences - ADAM9 2022

Another week - another conference! This time John and Smilla hopped across the Baltic Sea to Riga in order to tell researchers at the ADAM9 conference for amyloid research 🧠🌈🔬

It was a treat to hear all the amazing research focusing on the various aspects of amyloids and their associated risks - the talks covered everything from traditional Alzheimer’s research to functional amyloids in other systems.

Even better for us - We were able to connect with both customers and leads alike who are interested in our alternative (enhanced!) fluorescent molecules like Amytracker

Thank you to the organisers and presenters 🤩 Our wish for ADAM10 in 2022? Seeing more Amytracker representation and less ThT 😉

Conferences - Nordic Wood and Biorefinery Conference 2022

Conferences - Nordic Wood and Biorefinery Conference 2022

What a weekend!

Hugo has spent the last couple of days in Helsinki checking out what the Nordic biorefinery industry has been (Kraft) cooking the last couple of years.

Hugo spent the last 3 days at the Nordic Wood Biorefinery Conference 2022 in Helsinki getting to listen to experts and innovators in the field. He was also inspired by alot of up and coming scientists and engineers his own age who are striving towards a more sustainable and circular industrial sector.

"It was a pleasure to take part of a segment of the chemical industry I've previously had very little contact with! It was a fantastic opportunity to get to learn more about the industry and ask some pressing questions about how Carbotrace can be beneficial and what the deal with making money off lignin is."

Carbotrace Webinar - 21st October

Carbotrace Webinar - 21st October

For our Autumn webinar, we are excited to introduce Dr. Tharagan Kumar who will be presenting his work with Carbotrace in cancer diagnostics. A novel application of the molecules to create a workflow that has widespread effects and benefits for accessible and reliable healthcare all around the world.

Be sure to tune into our live webinar on the 21st of October at 3pm CEST.

The webinar titled "Cellulose in Cancer Diagnostics" describes how Dr. Kumar was able to develop a multilayered approach using Carbotrace to create a diagnostic tool for non invasive cancer diagnostics. Using the live tracking ability of Carbotrace, Dr. Kumar was able to track cellulose nanofibrils.

This is an event that you should not miss!
