How does Amytracker™ show the difference between Aβ plaques and τ tangles?


Amytracker™ bind to disease associated protein aggregates and adopt a complementary geometry unique to the interaction with the target molecule. The conformational change when binding to a specific target results in a red-shift in emission wavelengths. This occurs with different extents between Aβ plaques and τ tangles. Thus, the different aggregated species, Aβ plaques and τ tangles, display distinct emission spectra when stained with Amytracker™.
